When: Now
Where: www.bluegrassromance.com (Visit post titled “Mini-Missions: Your Ideas Wanted”)
Why:
In the vein of memoirs such as A.J. Jacobs, A Year of Living Biblically, and Gretchen Rubin’s forthcoming, Happiness Project, Morgan Siler-Cecil –national blogger, writer, and photographer, and recent newcomer to Lexington, Kentucky, Morgan Siler-Cecil, –takes on a year-long challenge as a wife, mother, and depression-prone woman to experience life with more excitement and joy via by participating in 52 mini-missions that take place in and around the Bluegrass. Her project, titled The Bluegrass Romance Project, will officially launch January 2010 as a blog that chronicles these adventures in word, photograph and video.
“2009 was a rough year for many families, ours included,” Morgan shares, “We spent a lot of time feeling stuck and disappointed. 2010 is an opportunity to experience life differently, despite the circumstances. The idea for the project came to me because personally I needed something that would get me excited again to wake up in the morning, something to push me outside myself, and connect me deeper to the community and place we are raising a family. I also realized I’m not the only mother, wife, woman who craves more adventure and romance in their life. Most people think they need to live somewhere other than where they are for life to get more adventurous and romantic. I’m excited to inspire families and residents of the Bluegrass to get out and enjoy their local area. The project as a whole is an attempt to redefine adventure and romance wherever you live, whoever you are– to show, via by example, that it is possible to find ways both creatively and locally to feel more alive every week of the year.”
The family and small business communities of Lexington, KY are encouraged to participate in brainstorming what some of these 52 mini-missions will be by sharing their ideas on her blog between now and December 31. Once the list of 52 mini-missions is compiled, one activity will be chosen at random, out of a hat, every Sunday beginning January 3rd. Morgan’s goal is to inspire families both in the Bluegrass and beyond to live life more adventurously, as well as to highlight local businesses, landmarks and activities in the area.
