No.11: Walk through a lush world of plants
What if I I told you there was a place in the Bluegrass that smells and feels like Hawaii?

There is.
Welcome to Krohn conservatory: The venue for mini-mission No. 11, where exotic plants grow year-round and transform indoor places into magical Palm, Tropical, Desert and Orchid houses.
The official date for the start of Spring this year is March 20, (just around the corner!), but here the abundance of plant life reigns, regardless of the season.

The heightened sensory experience of a conservatory makes Krohn one of the most romantic places in the Bluegrass: The tropical-vacation feel of warm humidity on your skin– so different from the air outside where you left your car; the oppulent green everywhere in your eyes, the sweet smell of freshly produced oxygen, the sound of a waterfall splashing in your ear. Take it all in and you’ll feel so alive.
This mini-mission was a family affair, and Lucca enjoyed it as much as we did. However, had this trip been a date for just Mr. Cecil and I, I imagine a walk through this lush world of plants could have been Hyper-Romantic, as in 18th century Europe: Being surrounded by so much thriving and blooming life makes one want to recite poetry:
I DREAMED that I stood in a valley, and amid sighs,
For happy lovers passed two by two where I stood;
And I dreamed my lost love came stealthily out of the wood
With her cloud-pale eyelids falling on dream-dimmed eyes. -W.B. Yeats
For all it’s romance, a walk through the lush world of plants can also be made into an adventure. My 3 year old, Lucca, is learning what a Rainforest is at school and everywhere we walked he imagined monkeys swinging from the branches above us.
And lizards hiding behind Agave plants in the Cactus house:

You would think I would have discovered the treasure of a conservatory long ago. But here I am, 30 years young, just now experiencing it. A walk through a lush world of plants is nourishment to the soul, adventure for the child, and romance for lovers. To make up for lost time, we’ll be back to visit you often, Krohn Conservatory (and how lovely that you are free)!
What are your feelings about the lush world of plants? Ever been to Krohn? Visted other conservatories? I’d love to hear…

Love the photos Morgan! We can’t wait to go. We have been to other conservatories but never Krohn’s.
Every summer, Krohn also offers a Butterfly exhibit! They bring in butterflies from all over the world and let them loose inside the conservatory. It’s BEAUTIFUL! The butterflies land in your hair, on your fingertip, anywhere! It’s incredibly magical. (My then boyfriend took me to the butterfly show last summer and later night that boyfriend became my fiance. I told you it was magical
I can’t wait for summer! For butterflies and for warmth
Thank you Megan! Yes, and you must go to Krohn’s next time you are in Cincinnati.
I have never been to one, now you make me want to find one.
